Corncrake Conservation

Admission Free | Booking Required

Corncrake in the grass

Natura Communities Corncrake Project

The corncrake is one of Ireland's rarest and most iconic farmland birds, known for its distinctive rasping call.
Once common across the countryside, it now survives mainly in parts of the west and northwest of Ireland.
Join Liam Loftus, Mayo Field Officer with Natura Communities Farmlands Birds to learn about the conservation work that is happening to protect the corncrake for future generations.

There will be discussion of traditional farming methods and how modern farming methods can be adapted for corncrake conservation.
Visit the Working on Land and Water exhibition at National Museum of Ireland - Turlough Park to find out more about traditional farming methods.

The Natura Communities Corncrake Project is led by Atlantic West Community Alliance Company and works in partnership with communities within designated Natura 2000 sites.

'The Natura Communities Corncrake Project operates across a nationally significant conservation footprint stretching through Donegal, Mayo and Galway, broadly following the core geography established under the previous Corncrake LIFE project. These western landscapes continue to hold Ireland’s principal breeding strongholds for the species and remain the focus of intensive conservation delivery.' - Natura Communities Farmlands Birds
