Check out what's coming up each month below:

Key artists

Local artists from the Dublin 7 and 8 area have been invited to reflect on and respond to the collections, histories, and spaces at Collins Barracks. Each late Thursday invited artists will deliver a performance showcasing their creative responses to Collins Barracks.

'A Fair Exchange' writing workshop

'A Fair Exchange' offers a series of free, drop-in writing workshops at the National Museum of Ireland, Collins Barracks. On the last Thursday of each month from September 2026 – March 2027, 'A Fair Exchange' takes place in a series of locations in Collins Barracks, inviting new and exciting engagements with different exhibition spaces, themes, and collections.

'A Fair Exchange' grew out of Gather, a collaboration between local artist Angela Monks McDonagh, Aoife Cronin and the Staff at Lilliput Stores. As part of future 'A Fair Exchange' workshops and art installations, artist Róisín de Buitléar is creating vessels from recycled glass to house visitors' stories and responses.

Tours and Talks

Immerse yourself in the personal, social, and political stories behind galleries and collections at Collins Barracks with a variety of free guided tours and talks. Admission is free, and booking is not required. However, places are limited and will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis.

Community Workshops

On the last Thursday of each month, from September 2026 to March 2027, local community groups from the Dublin 7 and 8 area are invited to engage with a variety of artists, creative practices, and craft sessions. If your community group is interested in taking part, please contact Oisín Kenny, Assistant Education Officer, at okenny@museum.ie

Dublin by Dusk is a new city-wide initiative seeking to provide people in the capital with a range of alternative night-time activities on the last Thursday of every month.
