What is a 'Relaxed Drop-In Workshop'?

A relaxed visit to the Education Room at the National Museum of Ireland, Turlough Park.

This room is on Level C of the Museum and is wheelchair accessible via a lift at the far end of Level A behind the brown bear 'Beir Bua' exhibit. The room can be accessed by the stairs in the middle of the Museum. When you get to the bottom of the stairs entering Level C, turn right to go behind the stairs and continue straight on. The Education Room is at the back wall on the far side of the Land and Water exhibition.

During the drop-in, children with their accompanying adults, can complete the craft activity which will take between 10-20 minutes to complete.

The drop-in takes place from 10:00am-11:00am. The Education Room will be open to families during this time, and they can come and go as they please during the workshop. There is no set time that a family needs stay in the room.

When you arrive at to the Learning Resource Room, you will be greeted by a Museum Educator.

The Museum Educator will welcome you to the room and offer to talk to you about our brown bear, 'Beir Bua' our Murmur of Bees exhibition and the honey bees which live on the roof of the museum. You can ask them questions about the brown bear, the Murmur of Bees exhibition, the honey bees and the Museum.

They will show you how to do the activities, which is colouring your own brown bear picture using crayons or brown bear mask making using crayons, scissors and ribbon.

You will be shown examples of how you can decorate and make the mask.

If you arrive the Education Room and the room is full of people doing the craft, you may be asked to have a look around the Museum and come back in 10-20 minutes when a family have completed their craft activity and have left.

Throughout the duration of the drop-in workshop, all children must be supervised by an accompanying adult.

The Drop-In Workshop is based on the Brown Bear display, which is located on Level A. This temporary display is part of the Murmur of Bees exhibition on Level D.

Toilets are available at the reception desk of the Museum on Level A and includes an accessibility toilet. There is also an accessibility toilet beside the Education Room on Level C.

There is also a shop and café onsite and both are accessible via the courtyard adjoining the old House.

Please bring along any PPE that you want e.g. ear defenders. the Museum galleries, shop and café can get noisy.
What is a Drop-In Workshop?
Drop-In Workshops take place in the Education Room (Level C) or the Courtyard Room, (Café Courtyard) at the National Museum of Ireland. These workshops are designed with families and children in mind. Each drop-in session takes place over an hour and features an activity that will take about 10-20 minutes to complete. There is no booking required, and you can take part in the activity at any time, and for however long you wish. The activities that take place includes colouring or a ‘make and take’ craft activity. Every activity is inspired by artefacts and exhibitions in the Museum.
